Pepvote Changelog

Changelog

What we have shipped, in the order it shipped. New ways to vote, sharper results, and the small fixes that make an election day quieter.

New

Give one position its own voting formatLink to this update

Show big photos for one race and a plain list for another, on the same ballot.

A ballot often mixes a headline race with photos and a long list of committee seats. Open a position's edit sheet and pick a Voting Format for it: Big Avatar, Big Avatar (Full Image), Options With Avatar, or Options. Positions you leave on Same as ballot follow your event's voting format.

The ballot preview and the ballot your voters see both show each position in its own format. Click Clear to put a position back on the ballot format.

New

See what share of voters picked each candidateLink to this update

On positions where members pick more than one, show each result out of the people who voted.

When members can pick three of nine board candidates, "40% of votes" and "most voters backed her" are different claims. Set Percentage Won Base to Voters, and each candidate on a multi-pick position shows the share of voters who picked them. The position footer then reads, for example, "104 votes • 40 voters".

The setting appears in Result settings on your dashboard, on the Result tab of your event settings, and in Result View on the public result page. It shows when your event has a plurality or approval position that allows more than one pick. See it on the approval poll demo.

Whatever you save in Result settings, including Show Weighted Votes on weighted events, is how your result opens for everyone. A visitor can still switch their own view, and the PDF download matches it. Click a multi-pick position's footer to see % of Votes and % of Voters side by side.

New

Let registered voters vote from the browser they signed up inLink to this update

A voting verification method for elections where your members do not all have email.

Some voter rolls have no reliable email addresses: a school, a community group, a hall of members on their phones. Set Voting Verification Method to Registration browser, and each member who registers on your public registration page votes from that same device and browser. After you approve them, they enter only the voting event code and go straight to the ballot.

Email is optional for these voters. Adding and importing voters is turned off while the method is on, because only self-registered voters carry a browser to vote from. When you turn it on, you can remove voters who were added another way.

Turn it on before voting starts. You cannot switch to it once votes have been cast. A voter who switches browser or registers in a private window cannot vote, so tell your members to use the browser they will vote in.

New

Restrict positions to the groups that vote on themLink to this update

Restrict a position to one voter group, so other voters never see it on their ballot.

Every student votes for President, but only Science students should vote for the Science Rep. With group mode on, open the position, give it a group, and turn on Only group members can vote on this position. Voters outside the group do not see it on their ballot, and a vote on it from outside the group is refused.

For the positions with no group, choose who sees them under Who can see positions with no group: everyone, or only voters with no group. A voter and a position meet through the same group, so use groups set to Any under Group For.

It works on elections, and on polls with Save voter info turned on, where voters pick their group after entering their email. Lock it in before voting starts: once the first vote is cast, these settings stay as they are. Paper ballots and the ballot preview show every position.

Ballot visibility by group is part of For Organizations.

New

Give a whole group one vote weightLink to this update

Set a default weight on a voter group instead of on every voter.

When every delegate from a branch carries the same voting power, set it once on the group. With weighted voting and group mode on, give the group a weight, and every voter in it without a weight of their own uses it.

A weight you set on one voter still wins for that voter. The voters table shows the weight beside each voter's group, with an info icon when a voter's own weight replaces the group weight, so you can easily spot exceptions on the voters table.

The groups table shows a Weight column while weighted voting is on.

New

Call registration what your event calls itLink to this update

Rename candidate or voter registration to nomination, application, or your own word.

Your constitution may speak of nominations, not registrations. Set the Candidate Registration Alias or Voter Registration Alias under Aliases and your word follows through the public registration pages, the confirmation screens and emails, checkout, and your dashboard.

Only the noun changes, so "Candidate registration" becomes "Candidate nomination" while buttons that say Register keep their wording. Each field appears once that audience can register, and you can also set it from the Candidates or Voters settings.

New

Show results with or without the weightsLink to this update

Switch a weighted result to one vote per ballot, and see both totals under each position.

At an AGM, members often ask two questions: how did the shares vote, and how did the people in the room vote? On a weighted event, turn off Show Weighted Votes to count one vote per ballot. Candidates re-sort by plain votes, and ranked rounds recount the same way.

Visitors find the switch in Result View on the public result page, and you find it in Result settings on your dashboard. It changes only the screen in front of you, never your saved settings. The choice travels in the link, and the PDF download matches it. See it on the co-op AGM demo.

Each weighted position now also shows both totals underneath, for example "39,414 weighted votes • 310 votes", on the page and in the PDF.

New

Scroll your sponsors across the ballotLink to this update

Show sponsor logos as a moving row instead of a grid.

When a long list of partners backs your awards night, a grid can push the ballot down the page. Set Preview Style to Marquee and your sponsor logos roll past in one row on the ballot instead.

The row pauses when a voter hovers over it or tabs to a logo. Voters who have asked their device to reduce motion get a still row they can scroll by hand.

Pick the style in the Sponsors Preview, the Sponsors settings, or Settings under Branding. Grid stays the default.

New

Limit public poll ballots by networkLink to this update

Set one-ballot-per-IP and VPN blocking rules for public polls.

Running a public poll? You can limit submissions to one ballot per IP address and block ballots from VPN and Tor addresses in Voters settings.

The one-ballot limit applies to a shared internet connection. People on the same home, office, or campus network can submit only one ballot between them when it is on.

New

Choose how credits pay for votesLink to this update

Set a linear or squared credit cost for each quadratic position.

When you set up a quadratic position in a paid poll, choose its credit cost power. The default squared cost makes three votes for one candidate cost nine credits. Power 1 makes those three votes cost three credits instead.

The choice appears in the position editor and on the ballot, so members can see how their credits will be spent.

New

Require a group when members registerLink to this update

Choose whether candidates, voters, or both must select a group.

If every registrant needs a school, department, or chapter, set Group Required For in registration settings. Choose Candidates, Voters, or Candidates and Voters. The public form then asks those members to pick a group before they can finish registration.

Leave the setting optional when group membership does not apply to everyone.

New

Set a fee for each candidate positionLink to this update

Price positions separately and show candidates the total before they register.

If positions have different entry fees, set a price for each one in candidate registration pricing. Candidates see the fee beside each position and a total for all the positions they select before paying.

The form also groups positions by position group when you use them. Candidates can switch to a plain list if they prefer.

New

Use one group for candidates and votersLink to this update

Set up a school, department, or other group that both audiences can join.

A department may have both candidates and voters. When you create a group, choose Candidate and Voter under Group For. That group appears in both public registration forms and the relevant dashboard lists, without becoming a position group.

You can still make groups for candidates only, voters only, or positions only.

New

Scan paper ballots and review unclear marksLink to this update

Count marked sheets with a phone camera, then check any marks that need a person to decide.

When the marked sheets come back, open Scan in the Paper ballots dashboard and point a phone camera at each one. You can also choose a photo or record the choices by hand.

Pepvote checks the ballot code and reads the filled circles. If a mark is unclear, a manager can inspect the sheet and choose what to count or spoil the ballot. Your result shows a "Provisional results" notice while the counting window is open and ballots remain outstanding. You can inspect each ballot's status and scanned image in the dashboard.
